Audio-video guide

In the year of 2014, an audio guide was created in Serbian and English, suitable for people with impaired hearing or vision, with the aim of bringing the permanent exhibition of the National Museum of Zrenjanin closer to the public. Members of the Association of the Deaf and semi deaf from Zrenjanin, pointed out the problems of their members with reading texts when using the guide and drew attention to the fact that their members would need a screen with a video recording of text translation into sign language. The project was financed by the international humanitarian foundation “Stavros Niarchos” from Greece, while the partners of the Zrenjanin National Museum in the implementation of this project were Cultural Heritage without Borders and the Balkan Museum Network.

The guide was installed on the tablet is available since December 2014 for all visitors of the National Museum of Zrenjanin, and it is also adapted for blind, visually impaired, deaf and semi deaf visitors. The highlight of the guide is that visitors can go through the display at their own pace and listen or read explanations about the exhibits and stories about the natural and cultural-historical garden of the middle Banat. The audio-video guide application through the permanent installation for the tablet edits video files about the museum and the permanent installation in sign language, as well as audio files about the installation in Serbian and English. Along with the audio guide on the screens, you can follow the text with photos of the selected items. The museum has ten tablet devices with an installed audio-video guide available to visitors.

The guide is the result of good cooperation with the Organization of the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Zrenjanin.

The Zrenjanin museum was the first in Serbia to have this type of guide, and at the interregional conferences “Balkan museums without barriers” in 2014 and 2018, it was among the award winners and served as an inspiration to museums and tourist organizations throughout Serbia.

The authors of the project were Sanja Vrzić, museum advisor of the National Museum of Zrenjanin, and Biljana Eleković, documentary filmmaker.
